Dans la culture occidentale, Périclès a le rare privilège de donner son nom à un « Siècle », incarnant l’apogée politique et culturel du monde grec. Pour autant, faut-il croire l’historien Thucydide lorsqu’il soutient, à propos d’Athènes : « C’était, de nom, une démocratie, mais, en fait, le premier citoyen exerçait le pouvoir » ? Périclès régna-t-il en souverain sur des masses consentantes ou ne fut-il qu’une marionnette actionnée par le peuple ? Chrī́stos Dionysópoulos : Classicist, Historian, Archaeologist. Born in Athens, he studied Classical Philology, History and Archaeology at the University of Athens, Egyptology at the University of Cairo, and Epigraphy, Papyrology and Numismatics at the University of Liége. He has worked as an archaeologist on excavations, as a teacher and head teacher at secondary schools in Greece and abroad, was a research associate of the Academy of Athens and Education Advisor for the Humanities. He also contributed to the effort to prevent the construction of a rowing lake in the battleground of Marathon The scholarly interest in the Battle of Marathon remains undiminished. This book presents all the ancient sources and all the scientific theories concerning the battle of Marathon. It provides a full bibliography (from the 17th century to the present day), richly illustrated with old maps. It proposes exciting and original solutions to all the historical issues surrounding this battle of cosmic importance, fought in 490 BC. Historian Christos Dionysopoulos goes head-to-head with 669 authors and 913 articles and books, emerging triumphant with a detailed study which casts light on the events, discovers unseen aspects and proposes interesting and original solutions to the questions surrounding this historic battle.The Academy of Athens awarded a prize for this study, judging it ‘to constitute the fullest, most comprehensive and most scholarly approach to the Battle of Marathon’, and that the author, with his talent for analysis and synthesis, has ‘contributed an archaeological and historical monograph of great significance for the subject of the battle which will underpin scholarship for many years to come’.

Moment grec est un ouvrage transversal qui, en s'interrogeant sur la question grecque, s'ouvre à l'actualité du monde et de l'art. Il est une étude consacrée à la Grèce, à son histoire et à sa situation aujourd'hui, d'un point de vue artistique - impliquant les arts visuels, la littérature, le cinéma, la politique, les sciences ... Ouvrage collectif il est né d'une réflexion partagée entre Pierre-Alexis Dumas et Emmanuel Saulnier à partir de leurs expériences respectives. Il s'articule autour de deux conférences d'Emmanuel Saulnier faites en décembre 2014 au Palais de Tokyo à Paris et en mai 2015 à l'Institut de France d'Athènes sous le titre ± Conditions d'existence, présence elliptique, moment grec?. Par ailleurs, il participe du travail de l'atelier de sculpture expérimentale d'Emmanuel Saulnier aux Beaux-Arts de Paris entre 2014 et 2016. Artistes, historiens, critiques, écrivains, cinéastes, grecs et français se sont investis dans cet ouvrage de façon personnelle et engagée.
